Our Wripple marketplace is made up of talented professionals from all different backgrounds. Their dedication and passion make all the difference. This month, we are very excited to spotlight Nicole Victor, an award-winning brand planner.
First, tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from, what kind of work do you do?
I’m a native New Yorker, born and bred in Queens and living in the Lower East Side. While I have lived in other places, NY is home. I love to travel, locally or to places way way off the beaten path. I’m also obsessed with movies, and the Oscars is my Super Bowl. I make it a point to see every single nominee, including short films and best song nods – and I create a massive spreadsheet to track the nominations. This love to plan and strategize is something I blend in all aspects of my personal and professional life.
Professionally, I use this love to create a vision for brands and businesses and figure out tactics to execute on that vision. I’m a strategic big thinker and a tactical marketer who has consulted on new products and services launches, innovative product marketing, creating new brands, and solving marketing challenges for start-ups, as well as Fortune 500 Companies. My love of technology and digital makes me a good fit for projects where the need is to drive innovation and efficiency using data when available and/or keen intuition and marketing knowledge when not.
What are the highlights of your career thus far?
I’ve had some great experiences. Collaborating with amazing agencies on truly integrated campaigns, collaborating with the top industry talent on advertising and product launches, helping to start and grow agencies, and leading marketing efforts with ground-breaking brands and technologies. There are highlights from all of them – but it’s mostly the people I’ve met and worked with that have been the best experience.
What do you love most about your work?
I am allowed to be curious, always. I am able to investigate, examine, hypothesize, and learn and grow. Having permission to be constantly exploring and discovering is rare and is what I love about doing what I do.
What is your favorite project you have worked on for a client and why?
I can’t pick one – do I have to? I have loved being on small brands and helping to make them big, being on old brands and helping to make them new, and being on dull brands and helping to make them shine. Recently I was on a project with Wripple that allowed me to use all my marketing muscles – from demand generation to branding to user experience – collaborating with amazing people and working on a medical technology that could truly change people’s lives.
What do you think are the top 2-3 ingredients for a team being successful on a project?
The ability to listen is number one. It’s not about staying quiet and letting someone talk but really listening to one another. Great projects and great work, in my experience, is when someone has a germ of an idea and when everyone listens and grows that idea – that is when the magic happens.
What would you do if you weren’t a brand planner?
Oh, there are so many potential careers I would have loved – this week I think I would follow in my father’s footsteps and work on a non-profit or NGO to help communities around the world. I try to work on issues like climate and the environment and other issues when I’m not on billable work.
Why are you so awesome at your job? :)
I think I’m awesome because I am eternally curious. I do listen. And I love to collaborate with smart people no matter who they are. I also love to hone in on the real question in someone’s request and get to the real problem to solve when clients have a challenge and figure out the real opportunity.
Anything else you’d like to share? Maybe a hobby, community involvement, or special recognition?
I often try to use my planning and strategy skills to help with political and community causes. It’s important for all of us to do something large or small to help make the world better.
